BRUSSELS, May 11 (Xinhua) -- Belgium's Finance Minister Vincent Van Peteghem has presented the new designs of the 2 euro coin which commemorates the efforts of the country's healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The coin will soon be put into circulation in the country, the online news site Sudinfo reported on Wednesday.
The coin serves as a reminder that Belgium's "healthcare personnel have sometimes given up their own health, and even their lives, in the fight against the coronavirus over the past two years," said Van Peteghem.
The obverse of the coin features the inscription "Thank you" in one of the country's three official languages including French, Dutch and German.
It also shows the depiction of a nurse wearing a face mask and pictograms of a cross, a heart, a syringe and a stethoscope, all referring to healthcare.
To date, Belgium has recorded 4,102,082 COVID-19 cases and 31,580 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.
