KINSHASA -- The number of confirmed Ebola cases in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has risen to 550, including 101 deaths, with health authorities warning that the outbreak continues to trend upward.
According to an update released Monday, 35 new confirmed cases, including 10 deaths, were recorded on Sunday in the eastern provinces of Ituri and North Kivu. Seven additional patients recovered, bringing the total to 19. (DRC-Ebola)

BISHKEK -- Air carriers certified in Kyrgyzstan have been removed from the European Union (EU) Air Safety List, the Kyrgyz presidential press service said Monday.
Kyrgyzstan was notified by the European Commission's Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport that all air carriers certified in the country had been removed from the list, which covers airlines subject to operating bans or restrictions within the EU, it said. (Kyrgyzstan-EU-Aviation)

MEXICO CITY -- Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said on Monday that her government will ensure a peaceful opening ceremony for the 2026 FIFA World Cup despite the possibility of protests by the National Coordination of Education Workers (CNTE), a major teachers' union.
Speaking during her daily morning press conference at the National Palace in Mexico City, Sheinbaum accused political opponents of attempting to provoke a government crackdown in order to generate negative international headlines ahead of the tournament. BRUSSELS -- The European Commission has proposed the 21st package of sanctions against Russia, targeting key sectors including energy, financial services and crypto, trade and, for the first time, fisheries, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said Tuesday.
According to a statement released by the Commission, the proposed measures include suspending the automatic adjustment mechanism of the oil price cap until next January, which would allow oil markets to stabilise while maintaining pressure on Russian revenues. (EU-Russia-Sanctions)
